Development of Lean Operations in Local Processing Centre
Description of Project
There, local management commissioned a review of processes, productivity, quality and team leadership – with the project sponsor set a challenge to achieve a 50% increase in volumes whilst containing costs at current levels.
To help, he engaged Chaucer to undertake the development of Lean Operations within his processing centre.
Chaucer’s Scope
This project saw us develop, pilot and implement lean processes throughout personal loans processing and secured loans processing.
There were five key elements to our approach, which were:
• Developing a Productivity Monitoring & Management System, establishing a baseline for ‘current’ productivity
• Enabling the accurate deployment of available resources to match workload
• Development of a Quality Management framework
• A detailed and critical examination of processes, seeking to eliminate unnecessary tasks or steps to improve overall efficiency and implement Lean processing practices.
• An examination of the behaviours, performance and results of Team Leaders
Benefits
The recommendations from the project led to a 40%+ increase in productivity - generating significant potential savings and performance improvements. Elapsed times to complete loans were reduced by around 20%.
Another significant benefit moving forward, a member of the client’s staff became sufficiently competent to undertake future lean improvement exercises independently.
