Project management for new project manufacturing and marketing
Description of project
Working in the fast-moving printing and photographic sector, our client has a continuous research programme and a need for new products in order to stay competitive. These new products need to be manufactured swiftly, efficiently and as cost effectively as possible to bring them to market promptly.
The client’s product manufacturing can be multi site and also reliant on third-party components, sometimes sourced from overseas or from a combination of individual suppliers. With tight time schedules for the delivery of products to the dealers, distributors and retailers, each new product needs to be treated as a separate project, making the coordination and capitalisation of key resources essential.
From us, the client needed support to implement project management best practice, and training help in project management methodologies and techniques.
Chaucer’s scope
We reviewed the company’s existing project management skills, expertise and techniques, supported the implementation of project management best practice and also introduced the staff to new tools and techniques.
Having produced a report based on our findings, we put together a suite of project management training materials and also ensured that the production manufacturing personnel benefited from our onsite project management training.
Our team was also able to support the client by implementing an integrated system for planning and resource scheduling. The system was carefully aligned with our own project management training articles, enabling it to be used alongside the implementation for improving project management capability.
Benefits
For the client, a significant improvement in project management capability saw an improved use of key resources, cost savings through smarter resource scheduling, improved coordination and management reporting and also provided a better focus on issues and risks.
Our team also enabled data capture – including lessons learned – and supported an overall increase in the efficiency of the client’s manufacturing process, while improving the visibility of new products, and their availability, to marketing.
