Manufacturing Strategy and Benchmarking Study
Description of Project
The report was to assist in the development of a manufacturing strategy for our client, a Major Global Pharmaceutical Company operating in Russia, against a backdrop of rapid growth in the pharmaceutical market and anticipated regulatory changes aimed at encouraging local Russian production.
Chaucer’s scope
Given our broad depth of experience in the Pharmaceutical Industry and an impressive contact portfolio, we were able to provide the customer with up-to-date knowledge of the Russian pharmaceutical market.
This information included the key participants, local production sites, production cycles and the different strategies adopted by various international and Russian organisations in order to address the expected changes. The study and subsequent presentation also included an insight into local business rules and habits.
Our research faced the typical challenges of an emerging and growing market, in particular, the lack of transparency in purchasing procedures, counterfeit drugs and unclear legislation on intellectual property protection.
However, our network of pharmaceutical clients and our position as a trusted partner allowed us to easily reach out and engage in open and transparent dialogue as part of a benchmarking study with 43 of the major international and Russian pharmaceutical companies operating in Russia.
The analysis used our proprietary benchmarking methodology and included telephone interviews, questionnaires, conference talks and informal conversations.
We provided our client with
- Political, economic, social, technological and legal context analysis of the Russian pharmaceutical market
- An assessment of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats in the context of: competition, new entrants, consumers / buyers, suppliers, substitutes, complementary products, the government and the public, including lobbyists
- An assessment of different scenarios in a manufacturing context and the likely impact to the Customer’s Business
- An understanding of the evolving Russian standards and their application of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP)
- Report with the survey results and recommendations of key points for the Company to address in their manufacturing strategy
Benefits
Our exhaustive strategy and benchmarking study gave significant advantage to our client, helping them to clarify their often ambiguous and uncertain market. Indeed many of the other organisations we contacted expressed a lack of awareness as to the eventual impact of the proposed Governmental changes.
Our report also included an assessment of different manufacturing scenarios and the likely impact of these on our client’s business - providing valuable input into the development of an effective manufacturing strategy.
