Project Management and specialist consultancy to set up New Operation
Description of Project
As part of its expansion strategy, our client wished to create a new Spanish gaming business. A key dependency was the successful application for a gaming license so, in order to maximise success in the bid, a joint venture deal was set up with an existing Spanish gaming partner.
In addition to providing project management and Management of Change services for the establishment of the new independent and remote entity, Chaucer were also engaged in the product launch, bricks and mortar design and technical rollout. This required contribution of our specialist gaming expertise, significant planning and a tight focus on ensuring complete alignment between the two partners.
Key aspects of the assignment included: researching and devising a financial cost model and subsequently building a cost/revenue model to respond to the license tender, setting up rigorous management and operational structures, strategic business planning, and setting up a project framework that would work effectively in Spain.
Chaucer’s Scope
- Supporting due diligence activities including analysis to generate the cost base of the venture and, ultimately, build a cost-revenue model
- Definition of project structure and workstreams, identification and prioritisation of deliverables
- Development of a detailed project plan with identified critical path and of a high level project ‘road map’ for management purposes
- Work scopes, work breakdown structures, detailed planning and resourcing
- Progress tracking, management reporting and project assurance including a 30/60/90 day plan up until bid success
- Creating the operational / finance revenue model to create the Spanish entity
- Defining the governance structure, including agreement on key sponsors, frequency of updates and formal sessions, and decision making process definition
- Risk identification and analysis, leading to management and mitigation strategies
- Definition of Business and Operating Models, including roles and responsibilities of local partners and our client’s engagement model with each
Benefits
This was a large and complex project in which, due to the very tight deadlines, mistakes or slippage could not be tolerated. In addition to playing a key role in creating and mapping out the client vision, Chaucer provided very significant assurance which permitted both the project to be successfully completed on schedule and the tender bid response, financial revenue model and operational plan to be delivered on time.
Our Consultants’ bridging work with the Joint Venture partners allowed for complete alignment and complete transparency across all work streams and activities. This was delivered through our detailed grasp of project content leading to a continuous communication flow of information as a basis for effective decision making.
Chaucer’s hands-on approach to the operational roll-out meant taking a lead in creating a viable operational business and therefore playing a strategic role at key points of the project.
