Description of Project
Our client organisation, an international food manufacturer, sought a high degree of assurance that it would be capable of successfully delivering multiple projects consistently and on a sustained basis. Chaucer was asked both to provide a benchmarked assessment of current organisational capability for the board and such specific, focused recommendations regarding remedial activity as might be necessary.
Experienced Chaucer consultants conducted a rapid analysis which revealed significant business opportunity in the use of systematic controls for successful project delivery. Performance was benchmarked against existing client company standards, the Chaucer Way™ and international processes such as Prince2. Pragmatic solutions were designed and proposed which would provide an appropriate, sustainable skill set across the organisation. All demonstrated clear links to tangible business benefit while minimising administrative overhead.
Recognising first the need for leadership by example, Chaucer consultants assumed hands-on project management alongside client personnel of several programmes already underway. This introduced and coached-in the core principles of project management which would be rolled out into the rest of the company as well as demonstrating use of a variety of soft skills. The approach delivered an additional benefit of immediate control.
A bespoke project management training course focused on hard skill transfer was also produced and delivered to a large number of selected staff members company-wide. Chaucer talent spotted Project Management champions during this process and subsequently coached them in the creation of a project management centre of excellence.
This activity was all supplemented by informal training to the entire workforce through techniques such as ‘Lunch and Learn’ seminars. Chaucer retained a long term coaching role to ensure that required behaviour change took root.
