Project Management Consultancy Services
Decription of Project
The required improvements would reach all the way from R&D through development to production, with specific reference to on-time delivery, project cost control and resource allocations.
To achieve these enhancements, the senior management team wished to introduce sustainable project management disciplines into their business, a development which would also aid communication with all their key stakeholders.
Chaucer’s leading position in project management and our vast experience of running complex projects of all sizes in both national and international situations made us an ideal partner to support a full review of existing projects, methodology and competencies.
Our brief was to enhance relevant soft skills and to provide an appropriate project controls ‘tool kit’ suitable for the business and able to traverse cultural boundaries between the firm’s UK and Scandinavia bases.
Chaucer’s Scope
We supported our client via...
- Strategic projects review to identify opportunities for reduced timescales, improve activity flows between workgroups and development phases, discover gaps in core project management skills, controls, tools and techniques.
- Facilitation of risk workshops to highlight the need for practical risk management process and gaps in current project management process
- The development and implementation of relevant project management tools and techniques including: Work Breakdown Structures, management and project reporting in support of effective control and improved stakeholder communications.
- Recommendations for project portfolio management including integration of outputs and reports into Web based communication systems.
Benefits
We helped our client to achieve their ambition for competitive in-house project management skills, techniques and knowledge.
And by introducing a single project tool kit for the whole company, we gave senior management and key stakeholders a global and transparent view of all activity.
Key projects were reviewed and recommendations made which improved project delivery from both a time and cost perspective. For the first time, the broad series of projects, running through the various development stages, could be viewed as a stream of activity where overlaps or potential interdependencies could be identified.
This process also facilitated budget allocation, helping the company understand which part of the development cycle needed investment at any given time.
An important soft benefit also became apparent as the geographically spread-out teams started working more closely together. In using the same single tool kit and methodology, a great team spirit and sense of togetherness evolved, something the company had not previously seen when projects were isolated from each other.
