Description of Project

The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA)*has strategic responsibility for the UK's nuclear legacy. We are decommissioning a number of civil public sector nuclear sites safely, securely, and cost effectively, whilst protecting the environment.

*(Nirex was the body that had responsibility for this before being successfully merged into the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) in April 2007)

NDA is a non-departmental public body, established under the Energy Act 2004. NDA is responsible for the decommissioning and clean-up of the UK's civil public sector nuclear sites.

NDA are responsible for:

  • Developing UK-wide nuclear Low Level Waste (LLW) strategy and plan
  • The long-term management arrangements for the UK’s higher radioactive wastes
