The Weird (and sometimes Wonderful) world of PM

Much of the time we're so focused on our own project it can be easy to lose sight of what is happening elsewhere. John Murphy takes time out to explore the weird (and sometimes wonderful) world of Project Management.

Would Lady Gaga have made it without Project Planning?

To reach the dizzy heights of music world domination takes more than just talent. There are thousands of talented musicians who never make it to the top. For those that do their talent is just one aspect on the path to success. See how one company that promotes musicians spotlights the importance of good project planning to achieve success, Leather pants, rock gods, groupies and er, project planning?

John,

Good insight, here is another one - project management is part and parcel of our ever day life although most of us don't realise it. Some of the best project managers I've known are people or professions who would never describe themselves as project managers; mothers, sports coaches, teachers, to name a few, we all do it, some better than others.

Interesting insight John.

Recently Silicon.com ran an article (How can IT departments cope with losing control of tech? Just become Britney Spear) again looking at the music industry as an example of good practice for CIOs setting strategy.

I personally didn't agree with the assumption that it is the artist that does has the overall vision for the end product - I feel this is more the producers role - a la Simon Cowell.

So you need Simon Cowell for the vision and a good project manager to pull it all together... oh you probably need an artist as well, best make sure that is in place!
